Marcus Carp vs. Deo & Z-Man – Qualzow EP

Mittwoch, den 19. Mai 2010

Acker Records welcomes three visitors from the beautiful Hanseatic city of Hamburg: Being a passionate and innovative disc jockey since many years, the club culture of the North German metropolis can not be imagined without mister Marcus Carp. With the two gentlemen Deo & Z-Man he is accompanied not only by two equally esteemed colleagues, but also a double portion of Mediterranean temperament and love of life. Referring to a reduced but highly effective rhythm repertoire, Overtighten Nut develops a bold and dirty charm. During the break, a twang double bass joins its pretty thick electronic fellow and makes the frisky bounce complete. For his interpretation, Mollo.Bass stacks up sound layer after sound layer very sensitively and subtle and so stirs up quite some expectations for a massive take-off after the short break. Those are fulfilled in every respect. Finally Rundfunk3000 rounds up the available Acker release with a rather song-orientated approach, featuring a rolling groove and playful instrumental entries.

Schäufler & Zovsky – Roggentin EP

Mittwoch, den 19. Mai 2010

Again that laid-back, humorous and open-minded character of the people of Mecklenburg glistens from the grooves of the available Acker record. This time it is represented by the gentlemen Schäufler, who is an essential part of the local producer and DJ scene since many years, and Zovsky, who was musically socialized in trancy sceneries and shows a remarkable versatility. Set Di Dol comes around on a powerful, pushing bass line, precisely placed percussions, minimal melody fragments and an exotic vocal sample make this track distinctly stimulating. After that the two dudes pick up the relaxed and cosy atmosphere of Every Day, which originally hails from the Easy Listening genre, and garnish it with reduced but very effective rhythms. On the flipside, the Radio Version puts this remix even more in a nutshell and finally Acker mister Mollono.Bass presents his version of Set Di Dol on the flipside: Based on his typical, bouncing groove, he creates a frisky and somehow tropical atmosphere, using refreshing xylophone sounds and a proper portion of tribalistic percussions.

Eule:nhaupt & Mollenhauer – Troja EP

Mittwoch, den 19. Mai 2010

Well, this is gonna be frisky: Go-getting musical globetrotter Eule aka Eulenhaupt meets his DJ colleague Molle aka Mollenhauer, the cheerful dude from Mecklenburg with his special passion for groove. The result of this encounter clearly bears the hallmarks of the two of them and therefore is similar varied and entertaining like the gentlemen themselves. A rich bass makes the head nodding right from the beginning of Candyshock, driving offbeat chords reinforce this effect even more. The percussive composition signalizes a massive departure even before the break, the track finally takes off completely with some playful-euphoric wind instruments. Candydrop starts in a similar mood but this one leads into dubby depths with harmonic keyboard orchestration afterwards. On the B-side Candyshock is re-interpreted by Mollenhauer’s Alter Ego Mollono.Bass. He again adds a mighty portion thrust, dubby sounds and a dreamy oriental vocal hovers between the quotations from the original. Last but not least Eulenhaupt and Mollenhauer rearranged the song Candyshop from the bouncy jazz-folk-crossover combo Fatima Spar and deliver a song-styled composition with friendly accordion sounds and a superb smoky female vocal. As one can hear pretty distinct, not only the name of this title was an important source of inspiration for the available record. Music from Acker for the acre or the cosy freak-out in the club of trust!

Schulze & Fusco – Richtig Fett EP

Mittwoch, den 19. Mai 2010

Cool and casual on the one hand but also humorous and self-ironic on the other: Quite a difficult and rare combination. But these two tracks prove that it is though possible: Richtig Fett means truly phat and this title was not chosen immodestly: The bass line, which kicks in after a few seconds, is simply described best with these words, it is pure forcing pressure. The winking German vocal proclaims this one to be the basis for its own phatness. Combined with tight, whipping percussions and a funny guitar break, this one gathers quite some bawling along potential. Schatz includes no less hit factors: Based on a dry and reduced groove that clearly bears the marks of its producers Schulze and Fusco, who are already well known as Fabio and Day.Din. Again it features a funny German vocal telling about certain wasted actions one’s girlfriend should probably better not know about… Spiced up with contemporary sounds, its reduced and crunchy manner represents the nu school Progressive sound of Hamburg.

V.A. – Solar Atmopshere

Mittwoch, den 19. Mai 2010

While nowadays it often seems like all the Psy Trance labels either reduce the speed of their releases and turn to more and more body-orientated club sounds or crank up the tempo of their music to rather hectic levels, Solar Tech Records delivers an excellent selection of tunes that keeps the golden mean: With tracks between 142 and 145 BPM the music is powerful, driving and very psychedelic on the one hand but also progressive in the original meaning of the word and does not get stressful or kitschy at any point. For this second compilation label owner DJ Natron extended his network of promising producers from South Africa, Switzerland, UK, Germany and South America and again presents some sparking pearls for original Psychedelic lovers.

Zyce – Transgressive

Mittwoch, den 19. Mai 2010

Being asked for a very succinct self-description recently, Nikola Kozic spontaneously answered: “Positive, hyperactive, friendly, always ready for action!”. The man behind the project Zyce ideally represents the spirit of the very fertile Progressive scene of his home country Serbia. Already his first tracks, being released in 2008, stood out because of both technical and creative independency. And not only two years later, he now delivers his second studio album. Dribbling beats and basses just as easy and casual like he did balls when he used to be a professional basketball player before completely turning to producing music, a very solid and inspiring base is set for “Transgressive”. Upon that, Nikola concentrates on single melodies and digs a distinct acoustic depth, a laid-back and very dreamy atmosphere. Far away from being overloaded, the 10 tracks on this album breathe a first notion of a tender spring breeze against the listener’s face and rise ideas of a sunlight festival acre.

V.A. – Reflection 3

Mittwoch, den 19. Mai 2010

Re•flec•ti’on, -s (f): 1. Mirror image, echo 2. Consideration, Meditation, Thinking 3. Sophisticated Progressive Trance compilation series

It’s s a balance act for a label to explore always new sounds and ideas on the one hand but not to lose its unique own style by running after every new trend on the other. This ability distinguishes really special labels from the mass of those who do not lack engagement- but individuality. The best way to manage this balance act is to know the current scene very well and reflect its flow in an easy and prudent way. And this again is why Blue Tunes Records became a name for quality within the scene. For this episode of the already well established Reflection series DJ B52 from Switzerland picked a very individual selection of high-class Progressive Trance tracks which are absolutely up-to-date but do not peer too hard ad current trends. Reflecting the global Progressive vibe, this music stands for its own.
