The blissful ecstasy of electronic dance music- it makes our hearts beating and represents the soundtrack for some of the most beautiful hours in our lives. But still there is more: The mutual experience connected with it namely. Those priceless moments when we exchange glances with each other and express our agreement about everything just being perfect for the moment by a big, mutual smile. This relaxed and familiar vibe which is at least as important for a very special party experience as the records on the turntables- this is exactly where the idea for the festival of the illustrious 3000° travelling circus crew arose.

And so this summery open air pleasure in the land of thousand lakes, the North-East corner of Germany, starts with easy guitar songs at the campfire. Yes, the associations striking you now are absolutely desired! Because it will become quite a special atmosphere, when a daring mixture of travelling performers, adventurers and other charming-eccentric characters is romping about between forest- and beach- stage, between circus tent and campfire. This multicoloured crowd will be excellently entertained not only by the artists of the travelling circus with their spectacular sound acrobatics and hypnotic beat juggling but also by quite an amount of bands and non-electronic musicians. “Wald, See & 3000Grad” – forest, lake and 3000°… For all those who feel addressed when hearing these words now: Get your freak freighter ready for take-off, grab your tent and don’t forget your swimming trunks!

Mollono.Bass – My Hidden Playground

Spring has already arrived at his Secret Playground: The warm air is filled with cheerful laughter and bare feet are moving rhythmically in the green grass. Mollono.Bass reveals a very laid-back character but also a very independent and open-minded approach to electronic dance music on his debut album. The first track In The Meadow represents not only a humorous hint on the best possible place to listen to this work but also creates kind of atmospheric foundation for the entire album in its light and fluffy manner. The lively hustle and bustle on the Hidden Playground happens in many different ways: Sometimes it’s the frisky bounce of hopping basslines and stimulating House rhythms, sometimes its hypnotic sound structures that take the listener on an adult adventure. But above all it’s the unmistakable sound of real instruments and their melodies which create that earthy, organic groove of Mollono.Bass, a groove that gives rise to mighty spring feelings.

Mollono.Bass – Mein Versteckter Spielplatz

Auf seinem Versteckten Spielplatz hat der Frühling bereits vollen Einzug erhalten: Die warme Luft ist erfüllt von heiterem Gelächter und überall bewegen sich nackte Füße rhythmisch im grünen Gras. Was Mollono.Bass auf seinem Debütalbum zum Besten gibt, offenbart nicht nur einen überaus entspannten Charakter sondern auch eine sehr eigenständige und unverkrampfte Definition von elektronischer Tanzmusik. So gibt der erste Titel Auf Der Wiese nicht nur einen augenzwinkernden Hinweis auf den optimalen Einsatzort für dieses Werk sondern bildet in seiner luftig-leichten Beschwingtheit auch eine Art stimmungstechnische Grundierung für das gesamte Album. Indes nimmt das muntere Treiben auf dem Versteckten Spielplatz ganz verschiedene Formen an: Mal wird es von augelassen hüpfenden Bässen und anregenden House-Rhythmen bestimmt, mal laden hypnotische Klangstrukturen zu Erwachsenenabenteuern ein. Vor allem sind es jedoch jener unverkennbare Instrumenteneinsatz und die damit verbundenen Melodien, mit welchen Mollono.Bass seinen erdigen Groove und mit ihm gewaltige Frühlingsgefühle heraufzubeschwören weiß.

Beim mushroom magazine handelt es sich um ein im zweimonatigen Turnus erscheinendes Printmagazin für die Trance Szene. Als Redakteur verfasse ich Artikel über DJs, Produzenten, Musiklabels und Veranstaltungen, führe Interviews und Umfragen durch und schreibe auch zu Themen wie Technik oder bildende Kunst. Da das Magazin international ausgerichtet ist, geschieht dies in zunehmendem Maße in Englisch.

Neelix – Nerd EP

Gone are the days when nerd used to be a derogatory term- especially when it comes to music production: Isn’t it that certain pinch of nerdiness, that kind of odd knowledge about instruments and their possibilities that makes a good artist? Jack-of-all-Nerds Neelix serves a triple proof on the available EP. He doesn’t even need much to make Expect What a catchy stomper, combining his unmistakable forcing offbeat groove with some rocky synthie riffs and subtle melody entries. In his remix on Meller’s Robot Monsters Neelix introduces a very epic and cinematic atmosphere that is chopped to pieces and mixed with relish into an intoxicating sound cocktail. Finally even the biggest music nerds will have problems to categorize You And I Belong: During the intro Neelix combines Breakbeats, Wobble basses and Trance in an outrageous casual way. Adding to this mixture the vocals of pop singer Shereen Shabana during the break makes Nerd finally a class of its own.

Ritree

Ritree stands for an old friendship. A friendship that old, that it had almost been forgotten: Dubi Dagan and Alon Brilant, both from Israel, met each other in Japan in 99 when both were travelling the world. They became good friends but somehow lost sight of each other again. In 2003 Alon started producing Trance music and soon made himself a name with his project Suntree. Independent of this, also Dubi discovered his love for creating sounds in 2005 and became well known for his productions under the moniker Ritmo. Their mutual passion for literally progressive Trance music re-united the two of them finally. And it was quite some laughter when they found out who the other actually was! Both having rich experience including album- and compilation releases as well as numerous international gigs, their studio collaboration turned out to be very fertile, Ritree was born. Their sound is very psychedelic Progressive Trance between 135 and 138 BPM with a dark, strong and techy edge, a very contemporary fusion of Prog and Psy.

Osher – Twilight

Ein unbeschriebenes Blatt ist Osher Swissa nicht gerade: Als Teil der beiden Projekte Ananda Shake und D-Fusion wusste der Israeli bereits in der Vergangenheit durch eine Reihe gelungener Produktionen zu überzeugen. Und so zeichnen sich die Werke, die er nun im Alleingang vorlegt, durch einen auffallend ausgereiften und eigenständigen Charakter aus. Auf seinem Debütalbum vollzieht Osher die Vermählung jener Erfahrungshorizonte, die seine beiden bisherigen Hauptprojekte repräsentieren. Das Ergebnis ist ein betörendes Zwielicht zwischen Tag und Nacht, zwischen Ruhe und Spannung, zwischen Psychedelic und Progressive. Beachtlich melodiös schichten sich die komplexen Arrangements der Titel aufeinander und entwickeln dabei eine sehr subtile Sogwirkung. Vibrierende Bässe im 16tel-Takt und dramatische Modulationsläufe sprühen geradezu vor positiver Energie- und doch bleibt der Gesamtkontext stets im Rahmen moderater Geschwindigkeiten und den verschiedenen Sounds wird viel Raum zur Entfaltung eines hochgradig hypnotischen Progressive-Grooves gegeben.

Interactive Noise – Rewire

Leicht macht er es ihnen nicht gerade, jenen Zeitgenossen, die alles gerne sauber und ordentlich in Schubladen verpackt wissen. Denn was der Mexikaner Hugo Venegas auf seinem Debütalbum vorlegt, lässt sich einfach nicht eindeutig etikettieren- zumindest nicht, was die musikalische Stilrichtung angeht. Andererseits lässt sich das Material auf Rewire durchaus klar beschreiben- als hochgradig moderner, hochgradig euphorischer und hochgradig explosiver Partysound nämlich. Einmal erinnert der zwingende Druck einer Sidechain-komprimierten Basssektion an energetischen Progressive House, dann wieder sind es verspielte Klicker-Klacker Elemente, die trotz oder vielleicht gerade wegen ihres minimalen Charakters ein Lächeln auf die Lippen zaubern. Klassische Elemente von Progressive Trance wie federnde Offbeat Rhythmen und luftige Melodiearrangements finden sich auf dem vorliegenden Album gepaart mit technoid anmutenden Hallkaskaden und sich zu immer neuen Höhepunkten auftürmenden Soundeffektkulissen. Mit diesem Leckerbissen für all jene, welche die Möglichkeiten von aktuellem Progressive Trance ohne Scheuklappen erkunden, beweist SpinTwist Records einmal mehr seinen avantgardistischen Ansatz!

Symphonix – The Usual Suspects

The limits of Progressive Trance are pushed further and further every day. More and more often this results in interesting hybrid productions between various electronic music styles. Also the Symphonix brothers Sirko and Stephan Wötanowski take part in this musical evolution process- but they keep their rather experimental bits on the side for various other projects. In the matter of Symphonix, they always strived to keep the original idea of Progressive Trance. And accordingly also the already third studio album of this project is solid, bouncy and distinctly psychedelic- but still modern and up-to-date as it can be. It is exactly this tightrope walk that is characteristic for the sound of Symphonix: Keeping up a clear Progressive Trance vibe and only slightly scratching recent trends and other genres, working in only subtle quotes from there to spice up the overall mixture and keep it fresh and exciting. That this recipe works out really excellent can be watched every weekend somewhere on this globe, when the two musical jacks of all trades present one of their positive, sunlit and uplifting live sets. So all together their new album meets all the characteristics to be beyond the usual suspects once again… The Usual Suspects of top-notch Progressive Trance!
